Mysteries of Karma and Reincarnation Eplained

After waiting two years to see this book in print, all I can say is that it was worth the wait! While the "Change Your Aura, Change Your Life" book explains how to use light to change and improve your challenges in life now, and "The Healing Power of Your Aura" shows how light can be used to heal yourself, this book makes the whole grand scheme of life come into focus. It's very comforting to know that enlightenment is a long and sometimes winding road, and that there is "no sin past redemption". We are given many chances to improve ourselves, remove old negative Karma, and create the dynamic good Karma that comes back to us multiplied! I like to think of it as the "Divine Do-Over". Judgement of others is reduced when we realize we have been where they are, and made numerous poor choices, too.

Must read book

I was born and raised in Taiwan. Reincarnation is fully recognized and embraced in my culture but until I read this book I had no idea how does it really work. Being interested in metaphysical study for about 20 years, I've read a lot of books, been to many workshops, seminars, and events. There are books that I consider as cornerstone for my journey such as Celestine Prophecy, Way of the Peaceful Worrier, Autobiography of a Yogi ..., and now this book would mark a newest cornerstone as I continue my journey.
If people could understand how reincarnation work, I think we will reach world peace because we would treat everybody, every situation differently. Compassion is given because there's no need to hate or angry at any other people. It's a perfect working system from a higher perspective. There is no victim. We created everything ourselves.

A powerful challenge to modern legal theory

The common law of England and the United States and the civil lay of continental Europe have a similar doctrinal structure not found in the older English cases or Roman legal texts from which they supposedly descend. In this original and unorthodox study of law and legal philosophy, James Gordley demonstrates that this structure was created in the 16th century in a self- conscious attempt to synthesize two powerful traditions: Roman law and the moral theology of St. Thomas Aquinas. The protagonists in this movement were the group known to history as the late scholastics or the Spanish natural law school.
Although the doctrines of the late scholastics were borrowed by later jurists, the Thomistic philosophy on which these doctrines were founded lost its authority among educated people in the 17th and 18th centuries. 19th century jurists reworked these doctrines, removing the Thomistic concepts that they thought were wrong or unintelligible. The result was the "will theories" of contract in which contractual obligation was explained as far as possible in tems of the will of the parties. But with Thomas Aquinas removed it proved impossible to construct coherent doctrines and contract law fell into a state of confusion from which it has yet to emerge.
In this powerful study Gordley demonstrates that by throwing light on the historical oirgins of this confusion it is possible to find answers to may of the puzzles that contract lawyers face today. And, reassessing the impact of modern philosophy on contract law, he concludes that modern philosophy has failed to provide a new basis for a coherent doctrinal system. The only hope lies in rediscovering the neglected philosophy of Aristotle and Aquinas.

A radical critique of everything you thought you knew about the philosophical origins of modern contract doctine

I don't remember quite why I bought this book, other than the obvious purpose of getting a little philosophical background for teaching a first year contracts course. But as I read into the book, it was the case of saying, then practically shouting, what? WHAT?! The story this book tells is not your grandfather's history of contract law. The other reviewer ably summarizes it, but let's say I was not expecting the Spanish Neo-scholastics.

By way of criticism, I will say the latter chapters are pretty hard going for one who is not learned in 16th and later century French and German jurists. A few more signposts along the road would have been helpful. A lot of these guys I had never heard of before. But that's minor.

It does leave me in a bit of quandry how to teach Contracts to the eager students. I can hardly say, first, go back and learn Aristotle and Aquinas! Or, none of it makes sense in the end without them. Perhaps read this book after rather than before teaching the class. In any event, this is a book that will really change the way you think about the law of contracts and what it is based on.

About the Author

Mark Lutz is a leading Python trainer, the author of Python’s earliest and best-selling texts, and a pioneering figure in the Python world.

Mark is the author of the three O’Reilly books: Learning Python, Programming Python, and Python Pocket Reference, all currently in fourth or fifth editions. He has been using and promoting Python since 1992, started writing Python books in 1995, and began teaching Python classes in 1997. As of Spring 2013, Mark has instructed 260 Python training sessions, taught roughly 4,000 students in live classes, and written Python books that have sold 400,000 units and been translated to at least a dozen languages.

Together, his two decades of Python efforts have helped to establish it as one of the most widely used programming languages in the world today. In addition, Mark has been in the software field for 30 years. He holds BS and MS degrees in computer science from the University of Wisconsin where he explored implementations of the Prolog language, and over his career has worked as a professional software developer on compilers, programming tools, scripting applications, and assorted client/server systems.

A great reference, but not a tutorial

I like how O'Reilly breaks out its PERL books. There is "Learning PERL" for beginners, "Programming PERL" as a reference, and "PERL Cookbook" for solutions. Alas, this book, a weighty tome that makes the dictionary look skinny, should really be renamed "Programming Python". It's a great reference, but good luck trying to learn Python succinctly and from scratch. It's like trying to learn English by reading the dictionary. I'll give it 3 out of 5 on correctness and completeness, but like trying to buy a pair of shoes at a giant Megamart with no department signs, you'll eventually just get frustrated and leave.

Python doesn't need to be this tedious

Another reviewer said that trying to learn Python from this book is like trying to learn english by reading the dictionary, and that couldn't be more true. Each discrete topic is covered in minute detail, so it isn't until page 500 or so of this 1500+ page book that you will have covered enough of the basics to write even a simple program. One of Python's strongest selling points is that it's easy to jump in and get programming right away, regardless of prior knowledge, so this book's approach is a major turn-off for anyone that wants to learn through practice and experience.

Speaking of which, readers will need to have at least some previous programming experience to make sense of this book, since it relies heavily on jargon that complete beginners are unlikely to understand. If you don't already know what functions, methods, strings, and such are (and experienced programmers here will laugh, but when you are first starting out, such terms can be confusing!) the author isn't going to explain, or if he does, it will be 200 pages later in a different section.

A more minor complaint is the dry and formal, textbook-like voice of the author. I don't need to be constantly entertained while learning, but I do need to have fun, and a little humor and personality go a long way.

I'm over a hundred pages in, and I give up. I need to actually program while learning to program. I was looking for a beginner friendly, tutorial style book that would encourage exploration and test my knowledge with quizzes. This isn't it. I think I will go back to my severely outdated copy of Beginning Python by Magnus Lie Hetland to brush up on basic program construction, then use this book as a reference as I get deeper into programming with Python.

Finally the book that got me going!

I was a total noob that wanted to learn to program and was advised to learn Python, since I want to do some text analysis. I started out with Learn Python the Hard Way (to mind numbing), tried CodeCademy.com (to general) and watched a lot of videos on youtube (too fragmented) and read a lot of different specialized books on Python (like Python for Data Analysis). THIS book is finally the one that step-by-step in a good old school-teacher way is the perfect fit for me. Gentle, start at page 1 and go one page at the time forward - and it all makes sense and is perfectly balanced.

I strongly recommend this book for anyone that is absolutely new to programming and have no ambitions to be a programmer, but only yo learn to use code as a tool.

good english language book

the book is good. it is not the most up to date edition that i would have liked but it will do. also, there's supposed to have been a cd to come with it. i didn't receive the cd and so i can't rate the book as well as i would like, but from what i have seen and read, the book seems a good read for anyone interested in a college tutorial in english language.

the results were awesome. This book contains recipes you may not find ...

Vague and inconsistent instructions, confusing translation, missing ingredients, extra ingredients, mysterious ingredients...... So I have had to improvise using my knowledge from 40 years of baking to fill in the gaps. For example, the recipe for Kranz, page 83, is confusing beyond comprehension. But it sounded interesting, so I winged it using the book to point me in the general direction. the results were awesome. This book contains recipes you may not find anywhere else, but be prepared for frustration if you expect clarity.

just a little side note

as a baker by trade, there is a few to know about this book that A some recipes for example foccacia's are more in the line of sweet dough then the average foccacia's that people usually make.B the standard bread dough recipes are pretty straight forward then I expected,compared to Nancy silvertons((breads from the la brea bakery) or sally fields (the Italian baker)but still good in taste.and B from the pannetone to the Impasto speciale are perfectly done well and well executed,I guess you seem to expect that from a master pastry chef. if your a home baker best to start investing into a digital scale and also ingredients eg:egg yolks and alot of them and butter aswell but this is the price you pay to have real bread at home from Italy,and as for supermarket bakers good luck. artisan/pasty chefs you'll probably breeze through this book with ease.

p.s if you buy this book do alot of research before you start creating one of Iginio Massari's recipes cause the last thing you want is expensive ingredients

This book is a beauty and I've only begun to experiment with the recipes but I must say one thing - the book lacks detailed instructions for the average home baker. I don't know if this has anything to do with the book being translated from italian to english, but inexperienced bakers will be left feeling a bit perplexed by the 'spartan' instructions. The measurements are also in metric units instead of the standard U.S. cups and tablespoons.

Being that I have baking knowledge from working in bakeries and restaurants, my personal opinion of this book is that it's worth the 60 or 70 euros that my husband spent on purchasing it from the publisher. My only regret is that it was not the italian edition. I am tending to believe that perhaps some key steps in procedures may have been lost in the translation.

Very good, but littered with politics

I enjoyed the book. It was easy to read, contained a wealth of facts, and set down a road map for anyone looking for an express lane toward our energy future. However, Tony Seba illustrates why green energy, although common sense in many respects, gets shunned by the broader populace: he sprinkles politics into much of what he writes. That detracts and distracts from the solid point, generally, that solar energy is, and will be, the world's energy future, and the opportunities in the industry are, and will be, vast. Again, this is just common sense, but peoples' aversion to politics stains the truth of it.

Also, I think Mr. Seba makes another classic mistake of the green energy movement - minimizing, or even overlooking, the value of petroleum in non-energy industries. As I sit at my desk and see pens, phones, a computer, a Starbucks coffee cup with a plastic top, a bottle of Tylenol, reading glasses, and so forth - ALL of these things require petroleum products in the manufacture. Energy is just one component of our need for oil, and until someone can figure out a better way to manufacture all of these things without crippling the world economy, there's no choice but to drill it and refine it all. Every ounce.

In the coming years, I hope to make a small fortune in the solar industry. I'll thank Tony Seba, Stanford University, and a handful of others for their assistance. The book is a great choice for anyone, whether you're interested in the solar industry or not. My own enthusiasm was tempered for the points I note above.

Creating wealth while saving the world

Solar Trillions is an eye-opening work that evaluates the various clean-energy opportunities using a helpful framework to assess their overall attractiveness. The author does a fine job sizing each market opportunity in an intuitive way.

Here are three items I found particularly interesting:
- "Solar power . . . would need less than one-tenth (8.1% to be exact) of the land space requirements of the oil and gas industries to generate all our electricity needs." - Tony Seba, Solar Trillions, p. 18.
- The patchwork nature of our deteriorating grid presents serious challenges to our global competitiveness and represents a tremendous opportunity for the companies that become the Ciscos and GEs of the new grid.
- The plight of the millions of people that lack fresh water and rely on kerosene to cook and power their modest homes was eye-opening. It's fantastic to know that low cost, solar alternatives exist to dramatically raise the quality of these people's lives.

Exhilirating!

This book is more about investment boosterism and showing the world that "Greed is Good In the Green Sector" than getting down to the nitty-gritty, operational details on how to prudently invest in solar-based technology. It's an easy, enjoyable read, and usefully weaves together a lot of facts (though some seem iffy, if not fanciful), but it's a tad too simplistic here and there.

Just one example: It mentions that flexible, "thin-solar" photovoltaics "work" and thus present a huge investment opportunity, but it cites to no UNSUBSIDIZED applications, and no "off-the-shelf" level products. A true investment market reveals a product people want to buy without subsidies (Apple products, for example), and by walking into, say, Home Depot and simply buying it. Thin solar roofing membrane (and other thin-solar products like solar roof shingles, windows, and other such thin-solar building products) can't be bought at Home Depot -- because they're still too expensive, and thus not worth the money. This book does not even hint that such "off-the-shelf" availability will arrive there anytime soon, nor acknowledge that thin solar may just die on the vine (Evergreen Solar, one of the industry's bright prospects in that area, is now a penny stock).

Instead (and the book does this with a couple other "solar" products), the book simply HOPES that thin-solar will be commercially viable (read: consumers will buy it without being bribed by government subsidies). Still, "Solar Trillions" is well worth the price and is bound to spur others to delve more deeply into what I agree, after much other research, is a multi-trillion dollar market. I especially enjoyed the perspective I gained about 2.5 billion people living off the grid, and thus the market potential for solar photovoltaics in that sector alone. I also appreciated reading about how "brown" power is subsidized more than green, thus further hampering green energy's growth (Tea Partiers and other small-government fans please take notice; subsidizing anything almost always winds up being a huge mistake, and this rings true throughout this book).

On balance, this is an excellent book that, by playing to one's sense of greed (invest! make money!) as much as one's sense of green, will do more for the planet than standard greenie books ("pay more! consume less!").

Impressive top notch concept art book

[[VIDEOID:31248761]]The first thing I noticed about the Massive Black art book is that it's titled Volume 1. It's safe to guess that there's going to be other volumes in the future. That is great because this book is very good.

The book is a paperback edition housed inside a slipcase. There are 192 pages and they are relatively glossy. The binding is great too. This book is a fingerprint magnet, and I left a few when I first held it.

Right at the start is an inspiring company's history. You'll get to read about how they started the company with $6000 to build it to a world class art studio where their art workshops look no different from rock concerts.

Inside the pages contain an impressive portfolio of illustrations and concept art created for too many clients. There are character designs, environment paintings and 3D modelings. The level of technical quality is top notch, of course.

Because the clients are mainly from the movie and gaming industry, most of the art pieces relate to the fantasy and sci-fi genre, oftentimes dark. It's like entering a different world just by looking at the paintings, the characters.

Massive Black Volume 1 has managed to put a smile of art lust and fascination on my face. It's highly recommended for concept artists, art directors, video game art lovers and people who just like good art.

The quality of the book is very good. The slip cover works well to protect the book
and he printing is very nice the wide range of art done in the book is super and
I really feel this is a must for any one wanting to learn to do Character Design to
see examples of some very ideas developed nicely.

A great set of the Fey, gorgeous images, insightful sage advice....a grand oracle for the soul.

I have to say I very much enjoy and am enchanted with this set!

I have over 200 Tarot and Oracle decks and this one is a top fave. The art is so rich and colourful. Just looking at it gives one a sense of peace and calm. The cards are failrly large and the printing quality is wonderful, the colours are vivid, deep, rich and very evocative. I adore the backs! The quality of the cardstock could have been better though, but I've certainly seen worse cardstock in oracles. It's not THAT bad. The cards will hold up fine as long as you treat your deck with respect and love (as you should treat them anyways) and not be rough and careless with them.

The book I was very plesantly surprised with. I wasn't sure what to expect, but Nancy Brown has done a fantastic job imo. Each image is married wonderfully to the text in the book. She gifts you with some great wisdom, advice, humor and things to meditate and contemplate on everyday. I really like the 'prayer' at the bottom of each card description. Some card meanings are longer and more detailed than others, but they are all very evocative and full of sage advice. The book itself is very pretty, a smaller size hardback, much easier to tote around.

I use this deck almost daily and I have so many favourite cards! The Shaman, Night Light, Birth of Magic, Discovery, Green Faery, The Oldest Fairy, Fey (top fave!), Moon Dragon, The Doormouse, Something Wild, Moon Secrets, The Source of Magic, Believe, Dandelion, Autumn and Lighting the Way! I draw a card or cards for inspiration, serenity and some wise thoughts throughout my day. They've been a warm and enchanting friend for some time.

These cards and book doesn't just feel like any old oracle, they feel very special and bonded to me. Alive. They talk right back to me!

The packaging IS very gorgeous as others have stated. Stunning really. I tend to toss boring or so-so deck boxes, but this one is a definate keeper. I never put the deck and book back in it though, these cards are never far from me, usually in my bag : ).

If you love faery and the fey, you will LOVE this set, no doubt about it. This set isn't meant as a divination or fortune-telling deck. It's inspirational and a deck that's a 'friend' to you when your down, just stuck or very happy! I believe the Fey are truly alive in these cards and that energy and light can't help but escape into your life and heart. Do get them, they'll add magic and wonder to the mundane.

Not a Tarot Deck - and doesn't pretend to be one

If you open this pretty package hoping for a tarot deck, you will be disappoitned. It is NOT a Tarot deck, and in fact, the title of it does not claim that it is -however, it is sold as a tarot deck in some stores and I think this is why some purchasers are unhappy with it.I read the box - the Faery Wisdom deck, and the seller at the store I was in explained that they are a wisdom deck, more of a deck for daily meditation and thought than for "tarot readings". With that as my expectation, I was delighted with what I found when i opened the box.

Nancy Brown has written some beautiful, insightful, and thought provoking descriptions and meditations, each with a chant, and a little note from the fairies and illustrated by Amy Browns marvelous fairy art.
The book is a real, hardback book not a tiny little thing tucked into the card box, and following the instructions there I cleared the cards and attuned them to me. the first card I pulled was "Home" - and it made me feel that the cards were happy to be part of my home and my practice. In the past week I've shuffled and drawn a daily card for meditation, and found them are right on track with what is going on in my head.

I also got the hubby involved. he is a much tougher sell than I am, more literal in mind, more grounded (my beloved little stick in the mud). he has found them as wise, profound, and delightful as I. If he has one complaint, and I must echo it, it is that the card stock they are printed on is very light and flimsy. He is concerned that, particularily with daily use, they will soon begin to show wear and tear. I agree, but only partially. You see, with the mild arthritis in my hands, I find this lighter card stock much easier to handle and shuffle than many of the tarot decks.

If you are really worried about harming the cards, you could always shuffle them the way I do some of my tarot decks, by spreading them in a pile on the floor and "stirring" with your hands - then using your left hand "feel" which card(s) you should chose.

In conclusion - I love the cards and enjoy them. I think anyone who is really into the fey would enjoy them, if not for the wisdom, then purely for the illustrations. and it goes without saying that anyone who is a fan of Amy Brown's art is going to love them.

You know, just as a sort of P.S., I once bought a tarot deck with dragon illustrations. It was a nice deck to look at, with many wonderful dragon paintings, but it seemed to me that it had no feel at all for the tarot, for the wisdom of the tarot, or for the meanings of the cards - they were just pretty dragons that did follow a theme of color or type for each suit but really had no "real" connection to the tarot. I was so disappointed, that in the end, I just gave them away without ever doing a reading with them. That deck really was, to me, all about the art.

It is important to remember with any wisdom, meditation, or divination tool that it is going to have to resonate with you personally. Some will, some won't. I think it has more to do with the individuality within all of us, than the deck itself. BlessedbeSummer

Beautiful!!

I love the artwork on these cards. Amy Brown is truly gifted. The facial expressions alone, on all the characters, are very explanatory. The instruction booklet goes so well with each card and the messages convey wisdom in a very positive way. I'm not a fan of gloom and doom and I think it's much more important to view and honor our light and dark sides on a positive note. It's not easy sometimes, but so necessary for growth. Thanks Amy Brown!

Focusing on one of the most beautiful and intriguing buildings in the Maya area, a hugh, ornate, low-lying horizontal structure on a high platform that dominates the ancient site of Uxmal, this well-illustrated volume (201 black-and-white photographs) is an impressive scholarly synthesis. Kowalski, on the faculty of Northern Illinois University, has culled widely dispersed data from historical sources and archeological reports on the structure's history, construction and dating sequence. He describes its elaborate stone mosaic facade, reviewing various interpretations of its iconographic meaning while contrasting it with comparable Mesoamerican architectural decoration. In addressing the scholarly debate about the residential or administrative function of this so-called palace, Kowalski judiciously concludes that it functioned as both and also as an astronomical observatory. While scholars of Mayan architecture will welcome the bookpreviously available in dissertation formatits cumbersome style and exhaustive detail will make it rough going for a lay readership.
